Press Release For Immediate Release – February 6, 2007 Contact: Hani Khoury – (973)246-7474 Hesham Mahmoud – (201) 893-7662 Housing Discrimination against a NJ Arab-American
With the Help of ADC-NJ, the NJ Division on Civil Rights has filed a complaint on a case of Housing Discrimination against a NJ Arab-American The NJ Division on Civil Rights has filed a complaint against a housing authority in regards to racial discrimination against an elderly and disabled Arab-American. ADC-NJ recently received a complaint from a NJ Arab-American claiming he is facing housing discrimination based on his national origin. The victim, who is also disabled, stated that two senior citizens housing offices discriminated against him because he is an Arab-American. He also claimed that he faced the same kind of discrimination when he applied for the "Energy Program". The victim claimed that he had met all the legal requirements to receive benefits from a senior citizens housing program and the "Energy Program" but was denied benefits based on his national origin. ADC-NJ immediately contacted the office of Mr. Frank Vespa-Papaleo, Director, New Jersey Division on Civil Rights and ensured that all actions were taken to protect the man's rights. Following the investigation, the ADC-NJ was notified that a complaint was being filed on behalf of the victim against one of the agencies involved. Additionally, ADC-NJ was assured by Mr. Vespa that his office will assist the victim in filing HUD complaints against the other parties involved. This sends a clear signal that neither the Arab American Community nor the State of New Jersey will tolerate discrimination, regardless of the source, against Arab Americans, stated Hani Khoury, President of the ADC-NJ.
ADC-NJ appreciates it is ongoing relation with the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights and wishes to thank Mr. Frank Vespa-Papaleo and his office staff for their support and dedication to fighting discrimination.
If you think you are a victim of discrimination we urge to contact ADC-NJ immediately. |
