Clifton, NJ-The New Jersey Chapter of American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC-NJ) wishes to congratulate
Wayne Parry for his well deserved awards from the Garden State Journalists Association. On June 1st 2006, Mr. Wayne
Parry received seven awards from the Garden State Journalists’ Association, including the Hildy Johnson Award for
Outstanding Print or Broadcast Story of the Year. This was for a portfolio of his coverage of New Jersey's Muslim
community. The awards Mr. Parry received were as follows:
1st Place, General News: Paterson neighborhood where 9/11 hijackers hid tries to forget; 2nd Place, General News:
Muslim critic of airport detentions is himself detained; 2nd Place, Spot News: Slain family's funeral brings
Muslim-Christian tensions to boil; 2nd Place, Education Writing: Parents' efforts to make public schools more
Muslim-friendly; 2nd Place, Sports Feature: No. 8 Turns 80 - Happy Birthday to Yogi; 3rd Place, Feature Writing:
Ooh, that smell! Plan targets Exit 13 air quality
The judges also collectively considered the four stories regarding the Muslim Community as a portfolio and chose
it as the Hildy Johnson Award winner for Story of the Year. Because of Mr. Parry's commitment to the coverage of
Muslims in the news, the Garden State Journalists’ Association took this unusual step, as they usually select only
one story for that award.
Mr Parry has covered many of ADC-NJ events and was the Recipient of ADC-NJ 2006 Recognition Award. On behalf of the
Arab and Muslim community we thank Mr. Wayne Parry for his dedication and look forward to continuing our relationship with him in the future.
