The New Jersey Chapter of American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC-NJ) is pleased to announce that it will open an office at 246 Clifton Avenue in downtown Clifton, around the corner from South Paterson. A celebratory Grand Opening ceremony will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2006, at 3 pm, at the new office. Elected and public officials have been invited to participate in the ceremonies. ADC-NJ is currently in the process of hiring an office coordinator.
New Jersey is home to over 250,000 Arab-Americans, many of whom are successful entrepreneurs, professionals, educators and business owners. ADC-NJ recognized that an institutional presence was necessary to meet the ongoing and growing needs of the Arab American community. With an office in place, we look forward to multiplying our efforts to defend the community’s civil rights in all public arenas, maximize its political, civic, and media participation, and ensure its unfettered access to economic and educational opportunities.
Hani Khoury, president of the New Jersey Chapter of ADC, stated: “Establishing and staffing an office in NJ exemplifies the long term commitment of ADC-NJ to continue to have a credible voice in shaping policy decisions, perceptions and attitudes about our Arab-American community. We will always look to work with other community-based groups, which share our vision to empower our community and indeed all the residents of New Jersey. ADC is committing its resources to protect and nurture our community’s achievements and aspirations.”
ADC, the largest Arab-American grassroots organization in the United States, was founded in 1980 by Senator James Abourezk to serve the growing needs of the Arab-American community, particularly in the defense of civil rights, education, and combating stereotyping and discrimination. ADC has a national office in Washington DC and has 38 chapters throughout the United States.
