Newark,  July 26 ,2004: Senator Jon Corzine,  D-NJ, has appointed Aref Assaf and Salaheddin Mustafa to  a newly created Task Force on Civil Liberties and Social Justice issues.  The task force, comprised of leaders from various ethnic and academic background will provide direct advise the Senator on the very important issue of civil liberties and the citizens and residents of NJ have been affected  by the USA Patriot Act and other Executive orders by the Administration.  The Senator is keenly desirous of supporting such resolutions and policies to ensure the liberties of all Americans are protected as we combat terrorism and crime. Mr. Aref Assaf who is the President of the New Jersey Chapter American Arab Anti-Discrimination  Committee said that such an appointment reflects on the sincerity of Senator Corzine's promise to fight for  protecting liberties of all citizens of the State of NJ. We consider the Senator a friend of the community and we are cognizant of his sponsorship of many civil rights legislations,  notably the CLARA (The Civil Liberties Restoration Act of 2004 which his a bipartisan attempt to curb the excesses of the 2001 USA Patriot Act.

The first meeting of the task force has been set for August 3, 2004.
